When did you begin creating art?

I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember. Started teaching myself to paint when I was about 5.

What is your favorite medium?

Any kind of paint but I love sculpting too.

Where do you find inspiration?

I recently heard the phrase “Feminist fed-Upedness” and that kind of sums up a lot of the underlying themes in my work. HOWEVER, the visual language I’ve developed to express those feminist themes comes from a mixture of nostalgia and my personal history, mixed with references to literature, pop culture, and art history.

What motivates you to create?

Creating is how I work out a lot of my anxiety. Both the subjects in my paintings and the physical act of making things helps me process my thoughts.

How do you think art impacts society?

Art humanizes us. Visual art and music can communicate ideas and emotion in a way that words alone just can’t sometimes.

What is your inspiration behind this piece?

I used to play elaborate games of dress-up when I was little; maybe subconsciously trying on the different roles society was going to expect of me as an adult. Societal expectations of women is a common theme in my paintings, along with comparing myself to or painting myself along-side chickens.

Why did you choose to donate to ED Warriors?

With multiple people I'm close to having been through an eating disorder I wanted to show my love and support for them and everything they've overcome.
